Academic

Why Choose Us

Academia is ever-evolving, but the libraries at most academic institutions remain the same. Because of this, academic institutions are constantly looking for ways to improve their library, but struggle to find the right solutions. Libtech provides a comprehensive suite of features that help improve library management, such as automated cataloguing, access control, and digital content delivery. Academic libraries contain physical materials and also e-resources. We deploy a hybrid solution that allows for integration of physical books into the library. So users can search and find both physical and online resources.

Features

1. User management

The user management module is used to track user registration on the platform, approve users registrations and delete users. This helps to avoid unrestricted access to the platform. With this function, students can seamlessly register on the library website without visiting the library physically. This eliminates the hassle of having new students crowding the library for registration.

2. Circulation

Circulation is the process of checking out library materials to users. The activities comprises of borrowing and returning of books seamlessly. The circulation module aids the management of checking out (lending) and checking in (returning) of library materials. The automated system sends email to borrowers to alert (via email) them when their loan is due.

3. Circulation

Cataloging module is used for creating metadata (Bibliographic information) for the resources in the library adhering to the cataloging standards. Activeshelf supports MARC 21 cataloging standards for creating metadata records The cataloging module enables Z39.50 SRU/URL search; this protocol allows the cataloging librarian to query other library databases to fetch metadata information on a particular information resource and add it to their library. This helps to reduce the time spent entering the bibliographic details manually, which can be very tedious. It also allows for manual cataloging entry, This process is used when the librarian in charge of cataloging can't find the metadata of the book after querying using the Z39.50 SRU option. The cataloging module also allows for importing and exporting MARC 21 records in bulk from other sources in and out of the library system.
